Owning me was not a need, it was a choice. Accepting my worth wasn't a one-day epiphany. I used to conform to other's opinions. I often placed my happiness in the hands of others; seeking validation of my worth through relationships with friends, family, and lovers. "The girl with daddy issues" used to be my excuse for all my actions. It was all too exhausting, mentally and physically. Defining my life based on others’ opinions ultimately left me lonely, tearful, and contemplating taking my own life. So I said to myself, “Fuck it, people already don't allow me to be me, so it's time I do me and Own IT.”
Today, I'm a mom to two wonderful, exhausting, beautiful, time-sucking children. When I am not doing Mommy stuff, I enjoy running (but only up to six miles), drinking wine with a hint of fanta, and painting my nails. In my spare time, I can be found writing and creating inspiring content on instagram and through my upcoming podcast. Time, money, and family are very important to me, and when any of the three are not taken seriously, we have a problem.
I received my Bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in criminal justice. My Master’s focuses on educational psychology, with an emphasis in community counseling. With all those degrees and student loans, I decided to become a therapist, because people need a place to own it. I have created a safe place for you to own your anxiety, vulnerabilities, adversity, and most importantly the story of your journey. I work to move you towards your future.
Opportunities to Own It
It's just you and I, sitting in a room, talking. Struggling with depression, anxiety, or adjusting to new transition. You can talk about whatever you would like to.—I love hearing about the hella good stuff too. Don't worry, I can guide you if you're not sure where to begin.
The adversity in my life shaped me into the person I am today, and for that I am thankful. My life and my journey is best served when I share it purposefully. Through owning my story I encourage and empower people of all backgrounds to own theirs.

Having Shani Tran at our campus was amazing. Many students really appreciate her narrative and unique perspectives on owning your inner Black Girl Magic. Students really felt her story is a story rarely shared within the campus. She also shared some great insights on how to be happy for who you are, and owning your own self. I would definitely recommend her to facilitate another conversation.
